Welcome to the Moyaone Habitat Stewardship Team
Promoting Biodiversity in Accokeek, Maryland
The mission of the Moyaone Habitat Stewardship Team is to increase and maintain biodiversity in and around Pistcataway National Park by promoting stewardship.
Identifying priority invasive species is a priority and then choosing those locations that we can have the best chance for success.
Stewardship requires shared understanding and recurring community engagement. Education is a great way to achieve this. We will tap into local, regional and National Park Service subject matter experts.
Habitat restoration is accomplished through management, protection, and reestablishment of plants by returning abiotic factors (e.g., soil chemistry, water content, disturbance) and biotic factors (e.g., species composition, interactions among species) to historical levels.
Reintroducing native trees, shrubs and plants over time will increase overall plant and animal biodiversity.
By renewing and supporting partnerships with the Alice Ferguson and Accokeek Foundations, Prince George's County, the National Park Service and our neighbors, we can refresh the reasons we all call this corner of the Mid-Atlantic home.
